Our Aims

The Club exists to facilitate and encourage sporting and recreational swimming within the community by providing access to well organised and well supervised swimming events. These opportunities are aimed at both skill development and personal development. Members of Collingwood Swimming Club are encouraged to be 'good sports' in every sense of the phrase. See our Club Constitution (pdf).

What we offer

We are a community run swimming club offering swimming skills development in a fun, relaxed and positive atmosphere. The club enjoys the use of the accessible, superbly appointed, and family friendly Collingwood Leisure Centre.

The club is open to swimmers of many different levels of ability; the only requirement is that a joining member be able to swim at least 50m non-stop. Anyone who is interested in the club is encouraged to come along to our club nights.

Our main meeting time is Friday Nights 7:30 - 9:00. We have access to the whole of the Leisure Centre from 7:45 - 8:45, allowing us to conduct a variety of activities including:
Time trials – aimed at working on your personal best times and becoming familiar with race protocols.
Specific stroke clinics – focussing on stroke development and improvement of technique.
Fun activities – such as Waterpolo, Aquathon and other games.
Relay training for team events we have entered.
Distance swimming events.

Our club is affiliated with Swimming Victoria, which means our members can attend events from their competitions calendar. This includes racing and encouragement meets in individual and team events organised by our district – Metro North. We are able to swim in individual races and team relay events, giving our swimmers a comfortable introduction to competitive swimming.

A very brief history

The Collingwood Swimming Club is affiliated with Swimming Victoria and has existed in its current form since 1979. Competitive swimming under the name of Collingwood Swimming Club commenced over 100 years ago with races in the Yarra River. The club was formed following a request from the Collingwood City Council and the City of Yarra continues to provide support to the club by allowing use of the pool for our regular Club nights each Friday.

Club "graduates" include a past member who became an Olympian. Sarah Jane Darcey, who was a member of CSC as a 10 year old, went on to compete as a 400m and 800m swimmer in two Olympiads. More recently, Amy Higginbottham – who was a devoted and active member of the club up until this year – has gone on to become a state junior triathlon champion.

The club is currently enjoying an expansion in the number of members, and as the club continues to strengthen it will also become more competitive.
