Short Course Season Results – Individual
Competitions
Throughout the season swimmers competed in individual events
at various swim meets with regular personal best times being
swum. The number of swimmers attending these meets however
was disappointing. It seems many swimmers are reluctant to
have a go at these meets through fear of failure. It is important
to know that failure is only related to lack of effort, therefore,
by having a go you can never fail.
I encourage all swimmers
to check our competition calender and become more active
in the club. As a general guideline you should aim to enter in
the number of competitions to equal your age each year. I.e.
A ten year old should aim to enter ten competitions per year
(this does not include team relay competitions such as interclubs
and aggregates). Your rate of improvement is directly related
to how often you train and how often you compete.
State Short Course 2004
Congratulations to James and David
Cowan-Clark. Collingwood’s
representatives at the Victorian State Short Course Championships.
Both swam in the 50m Freestyle, David finishing in 51st and James
63rd.
The number of Collingwood swimmers at these championships was
low compared to five last year. Once again I reiterate: frequency
of training and regularity of competition is all it takes to make
State level.
At the 2004 Long Course Victorian Championships we also only had
two representatives from Collingwood. As a
group, lets aim to increase the number of Collingwood swimmers
competing at Victorian Championships.
